For more than 6 years, I’ve documented working cowboys across the American West — from historic cattle ranches in Texas and Nebraska to high mountain pastures in Colorado and Wyoming. These photographs are not staged recreations or romanticized symbols. They are drawn from real moments in branding pens, calving pastures, winter feed grounds, and long summer days spent horseback. The men and women in these images are not performers. They are multi-generational ranchers carrying forward a way of life that continues to feed the country while preserving traditions rooted in land, livestock, and family.
Preserving a Living Culture
The American cowboy is often reduced to nostalgia or myth. In reality, ranch work remains physically demanding, economically challenging, and deeply rooted in generational knowledge.
This body of work aims to document that reality with honesty — the dust, the wind, the exhaustion, and the pride. Branding irons cooling in the dirt. Saddles worn smooth from decades of use. Early mornings before sunrise when frost still clings to the pasture.
These are not decorative symbols. They are records of a culture still very much alive.
